"Maranatha (Lord come quickly) is composed of seven men who had been entangled in a search for meaning to life; a search for reason. This Odyssey touched the paths of mysticism; led us through the sub-culture of drugs; included radical politics.
The pilgrimage has ended.
We have received new life"
The band.
"Although they’re from the opposite end of the country, New Jersey’s Maranatha (which means Lord come quickly in Aramaic) has that same long-haired home-grown west-coast guitar psych sound as Spokane’s Wilson McKinley. In fact I might go so far as to say that Soon is on equal footing with the classic Spirit Of Elijah — it’s that good. Guitarist Charlie Rizzo would later emerge with the more Southern-edged Ernrnaus Road Band, but here the style seems much more garage angled and hippie jamming. Loudhard-rock electric action on ‘Maranatha’, ‘Resurrection’, ‘Deeper Than The
Mighty Rolling Sea’, and ‘Coming Of The Lord’, while ‘Do You Know My Jesus’, ‘Let Us Rise’ and ‘Amen’ explore more acoustic moods. Some fun lively“Johnny B Goode’—styled r&r on “I Found Jesus’. An insanely rare private press and easily one of the top US Christian monsters."

Seven young musicians chose to share their faith out of a small church in New Milford, NJ, the Maranatha Church of the Nazarene. The band was called Maranatha and they released one album in 1971 titled Soon
A small church in New Milford, NJ, the Maranatha Church of the Nazarene, became one of the centers of the East Coast Jesus movement in the early 1970s. Out of that church, seven young musicians chose to share their faith in the best way they knew how and formed the band, Maranatha. As young people gathered in the church and grew to hundreds every Friday night, the band started to write and play songs reflecting their newfound faith in a way that spoke to those attending. The next step was to record what they were playing since they wanted people to be able to take this music home with them. So they rented a studio in NYC and recorded the album basically live.
